Today is the Day
Today is the day!
When I went to sleep the night before, I went to sleep telling myself that I would be waking up to a brand new and exciting day.
Instead — I woke up to (what felt like) a tornado working its way through my work email.
I had hoped that I would have some more time to review JavaScript before tackling the first Module today — NOPE!
Today’s Workday:
- 2 cups of coffee
- 1 migraine
- 80+ emails
- 20+ phone calls (with 3 of them involving people screaming/crying)
- A few sessions of wrestling my socks (and shoes, and towels!) out of my fur-baby’s mouth.
I primarily work from 9AM — 5PM, but oftentimes my job requires me to stay late — today was one of those days.
By the time I’m through with work Flatiron’s Orientation is starting, and though I was exhausted I was also excited.
Today was just another reminder of why I chose to join the Software Engineering Bootcamp.
To my great disappointment, I’m burned out of healthcare. I dedicated a lot of time and energy in healthcare to ultimately discover that the field just isn’t for me. Let’s not even talk about the student loan debt I racked up pursuing that field.
When I finally stumbled upon coding, it was like a lightbulb went off.
I could make something.
Not trudge through unappealing work and maneuver around never-ending busy work.
I could create something new, or at least contribute to it. It wouldn’t just be work that had no real goal, I would be working towards something.
I played around with learning HTML and CSS during the pandemic.
Using freecodecamp was fun and easy to do, so then I moved onto Python.
It was disgustingly hard. I watched several youtube videos, read countless blog posts and worked through a lot of practice problems. All so that I could understand the very basics (I’m very proud).
I knew that I needed to learn more.
It was a challenge, and I LOVE challenges.
When I was finally able to make a rudimentary website, I was incredibly proud of myself. The introvert in me was also incredibly pleased that I was able to create this without any overly-draining human interactions :)
Starting the Bootcamp pre-work brought me back to HTML and CSS -which was nice refresher. Now, onto the first Module — Javascript Fundamentals.
